Close the business-of-medicine gap most curricula leave open, backed by a turnkey fourth-year course and the outcomes data to prove it.
A complete systems-based-practice curriculum covering the contracts, billing, compensation, malpractice, and finances your graduates step into on day one. Running now at two U.S. medical schools.
Graduates leave ready to treat patients — and unprepared to navigate a career.
A new physician signs their first employment contract, manages six-figure debt, and confronts billing and practice economics within months of graduation. Almost none of it appears in a traditional curriculum. The result is avoidable financial harm and early burnout — at the exact moment your institution's reputation rides on graduate success.
What the typical M4 has never been taught
- How to read and negotiate an employment contract
- How AI is reshaping clinical practice, billing, and workflow
- The fundamentals of coding, billing, and reimbursement
- Managing student debt, taxes, and disability protection
- The economics of private practice vs. employment
- How to evaluate a first job beyond the salary number
The most practical course your graduates will ever take.
Every module ends with a skill students use within their first year of practice — not abstract theory, but the decisions that shape a physician's financial and professional life.
Negotiate their first contract
Graduates can read a contract line by line, spot red flags, and negotiate terms instead of signing the first offer in front of them.
Command their finances
From taxes and budgeting to investing, students leave with a concrete plan to protect the income they've worked a decade to earn.
Recognize predatory practices
Students learn to identify the financial arrangements and bad deals that disproportionately disadvantage physicians — and avoid being easy targets.
Decode billing & coding
ICD-10, CPT, the billing cycle, and reimbursement stop being a mystery. Graduates grasp how their work becomes a claim — and revenue.
Decide with integrity
Every module is grounded in ethics and self-awareness, producing physicians who make thoughtful business decisions without compromising their values.
Strengthen your alumni
Graduates who thrive financially and professionally become the alumni and advocates that strengthen your institution's name.
“I coordinate Dr. Brottman's Business of Medicine elective, and the demand speaks for itself. Spots are limited and fill quickly. If the course ran year-round, I have no doubt every rotation block would book out. Students consistently tell me how much they value what they learn about the business side of healthcare.”
A complete course your school adopts, not one your faculty has to build.
The Business of Medicine is fully asynchronous and self-paced on the Kajabi platform. Students work around clerkships and interviews — no live sessions, no scheduling conflicts, and no teaching load added to your faculty. You provide a roster; we handle everything else.
- Hosted, maintained, and taught entirely by BrottmanMD
- Built-in module quizzes and a cumulative final exam
- Student enrollment and technical onboarding handled for you
- Course objectives clearly defined in each module to facilitate committee approval
- Quarterly updates to content
No lectures to prepare, no sessions to staff, no grading to absorb. The course runs independently of your teaching schedule.
from roster receipt to active student access. Cohort-level pre/post gain scores are reported back to you for committee and accreditation use.

“I made — and recovered from — the financial mistakes this course is designed to prevent. I built it so my students don't have to learn the hard way.”
Dr. B is not a business-school faculty member. He practiced general pediatrics for nearly four decades, built and managed a private practice, and navigated the employment transitions, contracts, and financial decisions this course covers. Every one of the 40 hours is taught by the physician who lived them — and that credibility is why students engage with the material and why curriculum committees trust it.
For as long as Dr. Brottman is on this planet and sentient, students who complete this course may reach out for guidance on contracts, compensation, career decisions, or any question the course covers. That is not a feature. It is a promise.
The questions a curriculum committee asks first.
It's a self-contained, fully asynchronous fourth-year course, eligible for elective credit as your institution determines. Students complete all 14 modules at their own pace within a standard two-week access window, which is adjustable to your program's needs. There are no prerequisites — it's open to all M4 students.
Essentially none. The course is hosted on Kajabi and taught entirely by Dr. B. There are no live sessions to staff and no grading for your faculty to absorb. You provide a student roster; we handle enrollment, technical onboarding, and access — typically activated within 24 hours of receiving the roster.
A validated 36-question pre/post assessment is administered identically at the start and end of the course, producing a cohort-level gain score. That gain score is the primary outcomes metric shared with administrators and can be reported to curriculum committees and accreditation bodies. Each module also includes a quiz, and students complete a cumulative final exam — a reflective 2–5 page essay graded by Dr. B. Passing requires 70% or higher throughout. BrottmanMD also provides weekly progress updates to administrators, including Hake gain scores for your cohort. Yes — it is updated on a quarterly basis, so your students always learn what's accurate today.
